Stone Care Products

While polished stone surfaces are beautiful and durable, they do require some care and maintenance to ensure that they stay that way.

During installation, all polished stone surfaces are sealed with a silicone impregnator. The impregnator penetrates into the surface, forming an invisible barrier that resists stains and moisture while allowing the stone to "breathe." The impregnator does not alter the look of the stone. Impregnator should be re- applied to the stone once a year.

While polished natural stone is less porous than an unpolished finish, it is still susceptible to staining. Stone should be cleaned periodically with a product designed specifically for stone surfaces, as these cleansers provide a deeper cleaning than regular soap, but will not harm the finish. Strong detergents should not be used for regular cleaning of polished stone surfaces as they can affect the life of the silicone impregnator.

A mild dish soap and water are recommended for daily cleaning of polished stone surfaces. Any strong cleaner containing acid will strip the impregnator from the stone surface, thereby increasing the possibility of staining from oil.

Porous stone surfaces, like slate, need to have mineral oil applied monthly. The stone soaks up the oil which helps to repel stains. Soapstone requires a weekly application of mineral oil for the first 2 years. Daily cleaning of slate and soapstone should be done with a mild dish soap and water.

Blue Rock carries a complete line of stone care products. The basic stone care products are listed here:

  • Mira Clean: Use this product monthly for a deep cleaning of polished stone surfaces.

  • 511 Impregnator: This granite sealer should be used once a year.

  • 511 Porous Plus: This product is used primarily on marble and limestone. The surface should be cleaned with Mira Clean before the 511 Porous Plus is applied.
